Tony Dungy is the now retired head coach of the Indianapolis Colts football team. He successfully led his team to the Super Bowl XLI victory and became the first African-American coach to achieve this honor. Some who watched him coach had to wonder how a calm, mild mannered individual could become so successful. How could this man lead a team to this place in history without yelling, throwing his hat, or any other antics coaches seem to possess? Tony Dungy tells how he lives his life according to God and how he overcame adversity many times on and off the football field. He has been fired, moved to new cities with his family, buried his son who committed suicide, and won the Super Bowl. The passion and honesty shared through his words are inspiring. These aspects of this man and his life make me want to live life to the fullest even when adversity is around every corner.

This book demonstrates many principles and priorities that will keep a person going when they feel they cannot continue. It shows struggle and a drive to strive for significance. Quiet Strength has definitely fostered my own growth both personally and professionally. It is a great story that has helped me find significance and what is truly important in my life. Hence, this will carry over professionally as well.

Originally posted on 9/02/2009 at csi-net.org
