Over the past two decades, the counseling profession has seen an increase in the amount of qualitative research conducted and published on counseling-related outlets. Two of the most common qualitative methods used include phenomenology and grounded theory. The specific purpose of each of these methods differ from each other, which is led by asking very different types of research questions. To gain a better understanding of each of these methods, this webinar will focus on exploring the tenets of these approaches. Published examples of each method will be highlighted, and resources will be provided.

Attendees will learn:

1. The similarities and differences between phenomenology and grounded theory research approaches.
2. The importance of matching the research question to the correct methodology.
3. The rigor of the design and analyses involved in utilizing these methods.
4. The role of the researcher in each method.
5. Why the method should not be compared to quantitative research methods.
